Hello, friend!
I don't think I could be any more excited about today's post & video! We are in the home stretch with this guest bedroom remodel. Today I can share with you the furnishings and other home décor items I've found over the last few weeks! The anticipation has been building, and it's been hard not to share what I've found ~ but today is the day!
If you've been following along with this remodel, you'll know that this antique headboard discovered at the thrift store for less than $5 was the inspiration piece for bedroom style.

When thrifting or antiquing these last few weeks, I've had my eye out for a specific list of items... On one side of the bed, I'd love to create a cozy reading nook. If that chair happened to be an apricot color, and happened to be tufted with an arched back, that would be even better! Here is the inspiration picture...

And here is the petite reading chair we found at the thrift store ~ for $25! It is in great condition and is super comfy. After a thorough cleaning, I gave this dear little chair a face-lift. For the cottage style to be a little less stuffy, and a little more sophisticated, I've decided to remove the skirting. This one thing has given the chair an updated look with the illusion of more height.

One day, just down the street from us was this slender nightstand. Perfect with a small drawer and lower shelf. The seller accepted my offer of $5. The white distressed paint and chunky hardware are more suitable for the modern farmhouse style ~ but we can fix that with a coat of paint & "new" hardware!
To create the feeling of more space in our small guest bedroom, I painted the nightstand the same color as the wainscoting ~ Universal Khaki by Sherwin-Williams. By matching the wall paint color, the nightstand recedes into the background, allowing the wallpaper and other features to stand out more.

You've seen the gorgeous Hollywood Regency chandelier we discovered at an antique store; it was $135 and worth every penny! It is the perfect small, airy size for our small room. Plus it goes with the wallpaper perfectly.

This French Bouillotte lamp was thrifted for about $7. The shade is gold-lined metal and casts the most beautiful, mellow golden light in the evenings.

Then there's the art... as you know, I've been collecting artwork for a good while for this space as well as for other areas in our home.

One of the treasures I'm most excited about is the discovery of a French Aubusson throw pillow. I've admired these for quite a while. The pillows pictured above are a sample of what's online. They range from $80 to $180.

I found this French Aubusson cushion for $5 at the thrift shop!

This is the first grouping of thrifted & antique finds I gathered for this budget bedroom makeover. The antique oval mirror was a birthday gift, the art was $7 and under per piece, and each pillow was about $4.

Here is another "haul". The chair was $25. The pillows ranged in price from $1 to $4 each. All three curtain panels, four coppery jacquard valances, and two of the pillows (the biggest and smallest pillows) were less than $18!
This summer we celebrated our anniversary by going to a couple flea markets, antiquing, and thrifting. I was SO excited ~ the last time I'd been to a flea market was when I was seven or eight years old!

From the flea market we found an antique ammunition crate and a piece of art.

The score of the trip was this beautiful green handmade wool rug from India. It was the perfect size, 4x6, and a fair price at $60!

With the shopping and DIY finished, we are now ready to actually set up the room! In our next episode we will move in the furniture, style the bedding, nightstand, French settee, and chest of drawers. There just might be a few surprises you've yet to see in the works...
Thank you for joining me in shopping and DIY projects today ~ it was tremendously fun! Until next time,
Warmly,
Rachel
