As the year draws to a close, December has a way of asking us to pause. Between gatherings and lists and plans for the new year, there is beauty in looking back. I enjoy reflecting. Reflecting on the day, the week, and the year. Since I was a girl of fourteen, I’ve kept a journal. Nothing fancy or impressive, but the simple act of recording the events of the day, year after year, has given me the sweetest gift of being able to look back and see all that God does for us in a year’s time. He is good, always.
This year, in particular, has been amazing. The Lord made a way for us to buy a simple brick home on five acres in the country. The Lord worked out the details so that our previous home sold in four days!
The new owner is the sweetest girl, and we’ve exchanged numbers and decor ideas! I couldn’t be happier knowing our wonderful old home is in such good hands, and to gain a new friend, too!
Living in the country has been our dream and goal since we first got married. We are still pinching ourselves that this is real!
We moved in on the first day of summer, June 20th, and every day I’ve marveled at the beauty that surrounds us. Watching the seasons change has been such a joy for me! The fullness of summer and grandeur of the big trees caught my eye every time I passed a window. Often, Matt would find me outside first thing in the morning, just reveling in the property that is now ours.
The colors were subdued this autumn, but that didn’t matter to me. A breathtaking color play would’ve been great, but just being on the land was enough for us.
Another blessing has come through the ability to hunt once again. This year, the Lord has provided three deer to put in the freezer for the year ahead. We are so grateful!
In preparation for spring, we have planted multicolored crocus in the front yard along the walkway, and seventy bright yellow daffodils along the driveway. What cheer they will bring as the earth begins to awaken again!
Gratitude allows us to see that joy is not dependent on grand accomplishments, a big house, looking perfect, owning lots of things, but is found instead in being content with what you have.
As we step into a new year, may we carry forward what truly matters. A heart of thankfulness, a home that welcomes, and the gentle reminder that even simple days can be filled with grace. Until next time, take care,
