Good morning friends!
Today we are soaking in the abundance and last warm days of summer. My day begins in the kitchen, as usual. Random items have congregated on the countertop, the sink holds dirty dishes, there are bulk food items to store away, and the copper is… rather dull.
Once the countertops were clear and clean I tried a new-to-me product for polishing the copper ~ Barkeeper’s Friend. This powdered polish came highly recommended and I thought it would be worth a try.
I have three pieces that had seen hard use in the kitchen. These were the tea kettle and pot that both live on the stove and the colander that rests over the stove. Grease splatters and water spots had darkened them. With my previous method of polishing copper, these three pieces would’ve taken two or two and a half hours. With the Barkeeper’s Friend, they took forty-five minutes! I was impressed with the results as you see here, so much so that I decided to polish the copper tray to the right of the sink while I was at it.
I’m amazed at how bright this tray turned out! It looks as if I added another lamp to this side of the kitchen. When Matt saw the newly polished cooking pot sitting on the stove his comment was: “Is that the same pot?!” Anyway, this task was very rewarding and I’m glad to have this effective, time-saving product on hand for future use.
My other big project to knock out was filling out the gallery wall in the hall bath. A couple of weeks ago you saw where I planted and hung this handmade macrame planter, a gift from my friend. I knew then that this art arrangement needed help…
I flipped through my art stash for anything with black. I came across the two silhouettes that were spotted for me by another friend when she was thrifting. Originally the frames were a faux blonde/antique brass, but I’d always imagined they would look better black. A little spray paint and they do look better! The other two pieces of art on the top row I’d had for a while and this was the perfect time to use them. I love how this arrangement came together and added a special vintage flair to the hall bath.
