I’ve noticed that every Monday it is a bit harder to get the day going and to get the house back on track due to the long day spent at church the day before. To compensate for this a home-made quiche is on hand for an easy heat-and-eat breakfast Monday morning. This simple thing makes such a big difference!

A beautiful space that doesn’t work for the way you live will be… frustrating, unsatisfactory, and tiring! When a home flows with the daily/weekly routines of you and your family, you spend less time adjusting your life to fit the space and more time simply living.

Function doesn’t mean sterile or utilitarian. It means your home supports you. It meets your needs. The kitchen counters are clear because there’s enough storage for the tools you actually use. The sofa is deep and soft because that’s where your family gathers to fellowship. Function is simply how well oiled the “machine” of your home is. One good way to check the efficiency of your home is to note what stands out. When a home is functioning well, the “machine” is invisible. It just seems that the materials you need for the tasks you do are always at hand. Cooking is simpler, cleaning is easier and takes less time, hosting becomes easier and more fun…

We’ve all stepped into spaces that were magazine-perfect but stiff. You don’t want to lean into the sofa pillows because you’ll flatten them, you resist popping your feet up on the coffee table because the glass top makes you nervous… Comfort invites you to relax, to be yourself.
