Hello friends! It’s Christmas time again, which means adding all that charming cottage decor to our homes to celebrate the season. This year is doubly exciting since we’ve recently finished remodeling our kitchen. I’ve been anticipating this since August of last year when we started the remodel by painting the cabinets.
Now we have a fresh, English cottage-style kitchen as a backdrop for our vintage Christmas kitchen decor!
The biggest change this year (next to the remodel) is adding a soft blue to our existing Christmas decor. I began looking at inspiration pictures on Pinterest before last Christmas so I’ve had a year to think about how to add this lovely color and to gather supplies/decorations. At first, I wondered if the blue would create a patriotic vibe with the traditional red we already have going on, but after seeing how other people used the blue in gift wrap, greenery, and on their Christmas trees, it didn’t look out of place.
Two things helped the blue blend beautifully. First, I was more drawn to the deep red and soft blues than to the bright primary colors. By using the muted tones of blue and red, they looked more sophisticated. Second, I saw that when blue was added to Christmas decor, it was used consistently throughout. This repetition of color reassures the eye that the color belongs. I have found this design principle works throughout our kitchen remodel.
I began with an elegant medium muted blue velvet ribbon from Hobby Lobby. I tied simple bows and added them to swags, a wreath, chandelier, the mantel, and our tree. These blue bows were a quick and easy way to add color to many areas of the home.
Besides ribbon, I used vintage and antique touches in our kitchen to add that lovely blue color. You may not think of blue and white china as a Christmas decor item, but thinking outside the box is a hallmark of English cottage design. Don’t limit yourself to the typical holiday decor when you are dressing your home.
This antique teapot is a recent find from eBay and is nearing 200 years old. If only this teapot could talk! I wonder where it has been and who all owned it…
I love the intricate images, the soft blue, and the octagon shape. The ironstone creamer & sugar were spotted at the thrift recently and complement the shape of the teapot well.
This centerpiece idea came from Marian Parsons’ blog Miss Mustard Seed, where she created something similar with a cake stand and antique ironstone bowl. This is my interpretation of that same idea, and I love it! The milk glass cake stand was thrifted, the antique transferware fruit bowl was found online, and the candle/greenery picks came from Hobby Lobby.
To continue with the red in our vintage Christmas kitchen decor, I included this darling sugar bowl ~ a gift from my sister a few years ago. Can you tell I love transferware?! Speaking of gifts, small vintage finds like this one are lovely tucked into Christmas gift baskets for the people you love.

The plate rack circling the top of the kitchen cabinets is always a highlight to decorate with dishes. Here you see red transferware dishes that I’ve thrifted, been gifted by sweet viewers to our YouTube channel, or found online. These add the perfect vintage, festive touch to a cottage kitchen!
I’m loving how the blue has blended so well with the traditional red we already had for Christmas decor!
