French Country Thrifted Home Décor

Hello everyone & welcome to spring! The first signs of spring inspire me to freshen and decorate my home ~ does that happen to you too?

Today I thought I’d share my spring open shelving décor on our hutch. I hope it brings some cheer and inspiration to your day.

HAPPY SPRING!

Below is the hutch when I started… For Valentine’s Day we enjoyed a simple red & white scheme.

Wooden hutch with milk-glass compotes and a red transferware plate, blue and white ginger jars on top
Dried roses and eucalyptus tied with raffia resting on a red transferware platter

My husband’s wedding boutonniere leaned against the red transferware plate was the inspiration for the spring theme. The color palette would be green for spring, purple for a French flair, and brown for an antique feel.

Countertop of spring decor gathered for the hutch: pitchers, tins, faux flowers, a bunny and dried roses

After gathering the spring decor I discovered I really had very little purple decor. SO…

Let’s re-imagine our decor!

This little brown transferware pitcher along with this wreath are ideal for creating something new! The purple lavender sprigs will give that French garden feeling. A couple pieces of floral foam stuffed in the pitcher and a few minutes to fill the top and we have new decor ~ free! For simple wreath inspiration you may enjoy the Summer Garden Hat “Wreath” DIY.

The French feeling is conveyed with this vintage brown transferware and lavender. The dried roses are my bridal bouquet ~ sweet memories!

Spring hutch styled with white plates, red transferware, lavender pitcher and blue and white ginger jars on top

Large, base pieces going up first to give a framework ~ this step often takes some tweaking… The blue vignette on top seemed a bit heavy so I brought in some shine with a tarnished silver tray.

The jadeite pedestal bowl is a perfect fit for this snug little terra cotta bunny!

This classic ironstone soup tureen was used in the Farmhouse Spring Decor on last year’s hutch as well ~ it adds wonderful patina!

Bunch of dried pink roses lying on a hutch shelf in front of milk glass

Dried roses from a bouquet Matt gave me last year add a touch of pink romance and that French flower market feeling!

Lavender in a brown transferware pitcher with a bundle of dried roses on the hutch shelf
Dried red roses beside a mossy stone planter and red transferware plate on the hutch

Pure romance with these dried Valentine’s roses. I love the mix of the old stone in the planter with the roses and red transferware.

I am learning that less is more in home decor. Milk-glass is becoming a feature in most vignettes because of its brightness & simplicity. Shades of cream and white appear across the shelves tying the theme together.

The delicate trellis imprinted on this milk-glass goblet in the picture above, rounded melon milk-glass lamp, & fluted ironstone pitcher add great shape and texture. The lily-of-the-valley is from Amazon and was featured in the Spring Favorites last year. It looks so real!

Another home decor tip I’m still practicing is layering. By layering pieces the combined textures enrich each other for a more curated feel. I love the tarnished scroll work against the vintage oil painting!

Here is the final look with a large spring oil painting from the thrift store. This painting gives height with a light springy feel.
